The Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Center for Early Childhood Care Education and Parenting (SEAMEO CECCEP) held the 4th Governing Board Meeting (GBM) on 13-15 October 2021 at the Grand Mercure Hotel, Bandung. Conducted in a hybrid manner, this event was attended by representatives from 11 SEAMEO member countries who are also members of the SEAMEO CECCEP advisory board or Governing Board Member and several delegates from various other stakeholders. He explained, during 2021, the COVID-19 situation became one of the main obstacles for SEAMEO CECCEP to run these programs. However, this situation has not stopped us from continuing the work of SEAMEO CECCEP through our core functions, namely Research and Development, Capacity Building, and Advocacy and Partnerships. He added that during the past few months, SEAMEO CECCEP has conducted several national and regional-based programs in the field of ECEE and Parenting.

For example, SEAMEO CECCEP has conducted several online regional pieces of training involving participants from Cambodia, the Philippines, Vietnam. In September, SEAMEO CECCEP also hosted an Annual Regional Forum for Early Childhood Care Education and Parenting which was attended by ECCE and Parenting stakeholders, academics, practitioners, and NGOs to share new knowledge, policies, and best practices for ECCE and Parenting. This forum is also a momentum for the participants to agree on the formation of the Association for Early Childhood Care Education and Parenting. Several members of the Governing Council were also actively involved as speakers and participants in the regional forum.

Director of SEAMEO Secretariat, Dr. Ethel Agnes P. Valenzuela said that in these very challenging times, SEAMEO CECCEP is one of the centers that has risen in this situation. Dr. Ethel expressed her gratitude to the CECCEP director for her hard work in the current pandemic situation. CECCEP focuses on the 4th SDG’s point which is the same as the SEAMEO Center.

Then Dr. Anang Ristanto as Head of Partnership and Public Relations Bureau, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia stated that this meeting provides value and significance for the progress of SEAMEO CECCEP for next year. “This meeting provides value and importance, in central programs, the Indonesian government is happy to support this contribution to Southeast Asia in supporting early childhood education and parenting. SEAMEO CECCEP is part of MBKM’s (Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka) support to develop early childhood education and parenting.

The Governing Board Meeting is an important moment to upgrade the center for the next fiscal year. The advice and guidance of GB members are very important. This meeting is expected to give a huge contribution to the centre’s programmes in the following year. The focus of CECCEP is to develop ECCE and parenting programmes, which means that the Indonesian government as the host of CECCEP has committed to supporting SEAMEO CECCEP because it is part of the development of this country.
